FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Iowa climate advocates host statewide meeting June 26, 2023 – Iowa chapters of Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) will host their statewide meeting in Marshalltown on Saturday, July 8. The event will include speakers, and a panel discussion regarding climate action in Iowa. Attendees, either virtual or in person, will leave with a new understanding of how to talk to their member of Congress and how Iowans can advocate for national and state climate policy. Members of the media are welcome to attend. Where: Marshalltown Community College When: 9 AM to 4:30 PM Cost: $10 to cover provided lunch How to participate: https://iowa2023.eventbrite. “People who are concerned about the more intense weather events that we’ve seen in Iowa will want to attend” said Joel Greer, a local CCL volunteer helping to organize the event. He has been a volunteer with CCL for about a year. He appreciates the non-partisan, respectful message that the organization promotes to create political will. In addition to hosting events like these, members of CCL’s eight Iowa chapters regularly communicate with the Senators and Representatives from Iowa in Washington DC about climate solutions they can support in Congress. In particular, CCL supports the bipartisan Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act , which will drive down America’s carbon pollution 30% in the first five years, and put us on the path to net-zero emissions by 2050. As it does so, it will also improve health and save lives by reducing the pollution that Americans breathe, and it will boost the economy with millions of jobs, thanks to a monthly dividend going into Americans’ pockets. The bill is expected to be re-introduced soon. In previous Congressional sessions, it produced more co-sponsors than any other carbon fee and dividend bill. “Here in Iowa, we’re already feeling the impact of climate change. We’ve seen more intense tornadoes, derechos flooding and now widespread drought,” said Anita Christensen, leader of the Des Moines chapter. “Events like these help educate more members of our community and show our members of Congress that we’re ready for climate action.” For more information, CONTACT: Leslie Sand, lessand52@gmail.com ### Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a national nonprofit organization with local chapters across the country.
